Is this true..Dreambox/IKS/private server?
It was suggested that a private group could make their own private HD IKS system using DM box 800. Small server on hacked comcast modem cable connection running 30+ mips basically. Seems an idea any input on this?  |

oh my god yes there is tons of people doing that but i would be careful on doing that kind of thing make sure it is someone you can trust right ..
also cw3000-4000 dreambox also neosats can be used depends on what provider you want and then you all can share the cost of the provider but really i have just seen most people get the big packages and have one from the providers at each persons home ..

Most of the European IKS networks are small 'private' type affairs.
Dreambox 500's are very popular in Europe.

yes i have read on IKS server small setups quite a few across the maps,but a person must be careful on IP LOCK AND TRACKING.
Any one else have some input on this?

emsudos is that you with a new account. Why would you host a server at your house and risk getting caught by Comcast and spending years in jail. It is a really stupid idea. Comcast has implemented technology in the last few years that can detect hacked modems and block them. These hacked modems are also not reliable and can destroy the modem.

Ohhh boy here we go again....I had thought (actually hoped) that you had moved on to another forum....maybe a sewing forum where you might be able to speak on the topics with more accuracy. That is NOT me with another nick....I'm not going to discuss these modems with you AGAIN. Lets just say I've seen one in action and know FOR A FACT that they work and will not "destroy" the modem. I know, I know you work for Comcast and want to "protect" their business endeavors. If they are so "technologically advanced" and have such brilliant people working at the top then explain to me why they are the ONLY isp to not provision you online with your MAC....they do it with a DNS....dumbest thing you can do as an isp (ah you're not the only one that knows how Comcast's system works). You can pm me with your answer or open a new thread....I don't want to muddy up the o.p's thread here trying to explain this AGAIN to you.

hawkeyi you are correct in your post, my son works for em and we have talked in lenght about this idea, he say's when caught, cost of court, fines, and maybe jail time, he asked me JUst what's it worth lol

Just to squash these "rumors" of being caught with a "hacked" modem....that happens when you modify a modem that Comcast HAD online at one time and the MAC was registered with them. I'll be happy to start another thread if you fella's wanna jump in on it or start one of your own and explain to me exactly how they would go about catching a MAC on their network that has NEVER been registered? Now they can ban the "hacked" modem's MAC...big deal you change the MAC and the cert....possibly dump/change the tftp server and change the config file....and you're right back up online. And no they cannot "trace" it either they can trace it to the node....nothing more and if anyone thinks they can do more I'll be happy to look at any evidence you have to the contrary.

Comcast has one of the weakest protection systems in the Cable industry when it comes to the Internet (FACT). Just do a search of You Tube with respect to 'hacking Comcast' and as John Madden would say ... 'Boom Your There'.
One word 'Haxorware' Google it

CSI no reality yes, The concerns for many is IP tracking of IKS.
It could be you or me that they make an example of if you use IKS 1st your IP is locked then tracked get a box of beer so when the feds get to your house you can offer one to them well they load up all your stbs and PCs.
Todays world this happens as we have all seen in the media!!!!!!
