anti-piracy bill that recently passed

I am wondering if any IKS users out there are concerned about that bill the president
recently signed into law. I see few FTA boards discuss this bill. was this something
that dave or E* were behind. my first thought it was for illegal items passed into the country
but does this law also cover sat or cable services? with IKS who are you connected to?
is it someone working for E* and they are logging your IP address every time you change
channel or watch a movie.....after all, they monitor all those people who are subscribers.
that is part of reason I would not want a net connected box.
what I watch is not their business!
I have not read this law. so I don't know.
maybe you might just want to check up on it.

food for thought, I hope the law was not for what I think.

I would not want anybody experimenter to get busted.

what are your thoughts? seen this before?

Which bill is this? I cannot find one that Obama has signed, although I did find one that passed a month or so ago in France.

I could not find reference to it either. but I remember the news bulletin on the tube.
just a note who he put in power: Obama picks BSA's antipiracy enforcer for high-level post | Politics and Law - CNET News
I am still not sure if the bill signed by obama was to add to the bill bush signed.

defending copyright protections of movies too?
I am not sure. I just do not want to be the one they set a example of.

Re: anti-piracy bill that recently passed

The last bill I remember any uproar about was one that Obama(nation) signed saying they could "scan" the contents of your HD as you cross the border....looking for copyright material or other "illegal" material I guess terrorist stuff (like the terrorists will leave all that on a HD anyways). Not sure if this is the one you are referring to?

Re: anti-piracy bill that recently passed

The big bucks of the recording industry are fueling this fire, not sats.. if and when a real suit pops up against someone who is supplying keys off a providers card, the lawyers will no doubt revert to what is going on with the record companies and P2P lawsuits. but i'm happy to tell you that dish's pockets just aren't any where near as deep as those of the recording industry.

all recent news i (google) can find relating to "anti-piracy" is either french or pertaining to the fashion industry and "knockoff" clothing. doesn't seem like Obama has done anything officially on the subject.

If dish was worried about you watching their TV for free, they would trick you into giving them your IP and brick your box. I know I would... but you are not what they want, they want the people who are giving you the means to do so. You're just a lowly crackhead, they don't want you , they want the neighborhood dealer, the IKS cartel..

Is this what you were referring to? If it is they're talking about copyrighted material

Re: anti-piracy bill that recently passed

Obama did not have anything to do with the EU bill.
as for the EU bill, it was the same one Bush signed, last year.

the one Obama signed was a extension of that covering what. I do not know
just that it was for the HLS to enforce piracy of anything....(my guess.)

The dept. of home land security controls the borders....you are thinking of the legislation that I mentioned. Read here for more: Laptop border searches to continue | Politics and Law - CNET News
