rumors only
now here is a c/p from another site .. remember have a conversation DO NOT INSULT OR BASH OTHER OR I WILL GIVE YOU A INFRACTION 3 AND YOU GET A HOLIDAY
BE NICE
c/p
d*shnet, IKS read this!!
d*shnet, IKS read this!!
SandVine and d*shnet and IKS ... read this!!
Found this on another site....C&P
Friday, May 23 2008
d*sh Network has a contract with a company called Sandvine (although like all isps do, they will not confirm this..but Sandvine has), as do many of our US and canadian ISPs....now for those that don't know, this is deep packet sniffing/inspection head end software, and there's no encryption that gets by it... This software was designed to beat bittorrent and to disable specific ports at a isp headend server, it also has the flexibility to do nasty things. Any and ALL IKS units will be able to be filtered if your ISP has it... And if you ISP has it, then they have a direct path straight to your front door, and also remember proxies don't work on your ISP. They can see the real truth...
When N3 hits (if they wait this long), I expect all IKS will get TV for 24-48 hours....then will give them long enough to filter it, knowing its N3 or N2 code.... and then they have a valid case against you....see my point!! thread Carefully guys...

Re: rumors only
well my opinion is that if this breaks encrytions via packets there is going to be a legal case against then there is alot of secure banking site ssl and there are vpns for people to do work at home if this is a sniffer that looks for encrytions that is hacking and the company will be looking at a lawsuite very soon if it is implemented .. also there is the privacy act also ..
i really think it is bull s because the software would be deemed as a hacking tool a good firewall and a proxy would stop this .. no problem
i think it is a scare that someone posted ..

Re: rumors only
I also believe the use of the software would have lots of legal issues as mentioned by tomcat. If anyone is concerned about this " no I am not in the least bit" please do a search for the latest ruling handed down from the appeals court to dtv earlier this year.
The courts have made it perfectly clear that their time will not be wasted by trying to police the cookie jar.The ruling handed down states that if you want to eliminate the sateliite theft then make it where the person can't.In other words build a better encryption method.
Lets face it these rumors have been coming down for the past year warning of gloom and doom.Never let anyone scare you into nothing.Do your research and make your own decision based on the facts....

Re: rumors only
I just read an article about B3V using deep packet inspection against ISP resellers. So when a company buys large volumes of ISP's and sells them. These other companies are watching all of the traffic. Shaw was mentioned and a couple other companies.
I will try to find it.

Re: rumors only
Bell Canada's use of deep packet inspection (DPI) technologies has resulted in a complaint raised over the potential invasion of privacy. The complaint was filed by the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC) with Canada's Privacy Commissioner, Jennifer Stoddart.
Bell asserts that it looks only at packet headers and does not actually peek into the contents, citing that "the content itself is not actually reviewed, analyzed or stored." The CIPPIC, on the other hand, contends that even IP addresses are personal information as they can be used to track visited websites, or be linked to particular search engine queries.
Indeed, current DPI appliances are sophisticated enough to reconstitute IM conversations, as well as peek at the contents of unencrypted data packets. Overall though, the issue here is less about IP addresses and more about privacy.
