With N3 looming on the horizon...
How do you choose a receiver for the swap?? This is all opinion, and is NOT intended to start a bashing thread...I believe the track record of the brand should carry the most weight...Mainly uptime, or speed of support...
It is obvious who has been releasing quickest of late, and who doesn't even realize there has been an ECM...Not necessarily IKS solutions, but cardless brands as well...
It is plain to see that the IKS boxes are king in this swap with the statement nFusion has made with BEV...It may not be a hack, but the nFusion guys have the Canadian TV'ers happy until a hack does come...Look for ALL of the "major" brands to get some sort of dongle or IKS solution very soon for the sake of their own customer base...
Viewsat with all of their legal woes still seem to be popping out fixes quickly, usually one of the first out of the gate...Captain has come a long way in improvement of quickness, while the Sonicview support seems to be quickly approaching a less desirable ranking...For some reason they have gone from being a COUPLE of hours for solutions to 12 or more hours after most of the other brands have already released...Don't get me wrong, the highest quality is still there in the STB's, the support just seems to have waned a bit...They lost some of their best coders recently, and are in a re-building stage of sorts I assume, but I do look for a strong comeback from them with this majik board release...
Neosat/Neusat, and Icon...What can you say, other than you go guys...Since D1 and v2 merged cardless is extremely quick out of the box...This frees up time for the HIKS,and IKS N3 solution...CNX has had stellar uptime as of late as well...
Most of these brands mentioned have given N3 progress reports...I suppose the rest will be a wait and see scenario...I know all of the brands weren't covered here...This wasn't meant to leave anyone out, as there are many other reliable boxes as well...This is just some info, meant to help some of the less informed to think about the upcoming choices they will have to make...Good luck everyone, and happy viewing...speedy1966

Re: With N3 looming on the horizon...
I agree with you 100% on this. I think that board that SV is talking about is all a sales pitch to sale more 360 units in a time when we should all be sitting tight and waitting to see what happens.
If I had to grade support right now on the major brands here it is.
IKS supported units A+
Conaxsat, and Captiveworks A
Pansat B
Viewsat C+
coolsat C
Sonicview C-
It's just my opinion but sonicview has seemed to drop to the bottom of my list. 3 Months ago they where up on the top of my list, But things change. As of right now I would not recomend a SV due to their support problems. If I do get a new unit, I'm leanning to a conaxsat right now. LOL but as I said thinks could change very fast in this hobby

Re: With N3 looming on the horizon...
I just wanted to address this statement:
"Viewsat with all of their legal woes still seem to be popping out fixes quickly, usually one of the first out of the gate..."
Just to bring everyone up to speed, and clear up a common misconception, Viewsat is a mfg. They mfg and sell hardware for FTA.
The programmers who develop code are Coders.
Two totally different things.
Oh, and one more thing, only one coding team can be first with a release then all others are by default "not first", who it is going to be is anyones guess, I guess that's where the skill comes in.
And now back to our regularly scheduled program.
Regards,
Creative Genius

Re: With N3 looming on the horizon...
overnight ecm fixes and some don't think that's good lol.
how soon we forget, not all that long ago ecm fixes took a day or two.sometimes a week or two for the tough ones.
n2 has been fully exploited.
how soon we forget, not very long ago,pic used to go black for 10-20 mins during a key change.now in many cases, the units do not even notice.
how soon we forget just how good 3rd party support is right now.its NEVER been so good due to basically full emulation or VERY very close to it for others.
no key change black screen, only hourly ecm fixes vrs days/weeks like the past.
how soon we forget that a new card even if hacked will put a/r and emu back where it was.long waiting time, entering keys manually etc.
how soon we forget just how good sonicview, one of the BEST if not the BEST in the market is due to a few times with fast overnight ecm fixes.
I'm totally shocked to hear some don't think sonicview is one of the best.
if sv is not good enough, you might as well hang it up and sub imho, cus it doesn't get any better than this.
as for sv's "magic board" being a gimmick............never bet against the top players like the sv team, you not likely to be right.

Re: With N3 looming on the horizon...
I hope I didn't offend anyone. I didn't mean to bash S.V. I'm very happy with my 4000. I was just giving a general view of my opinion. I guess what I meant to say when I said I wouldn't recomend a sv, is this. If someone asked me what unit had has the most up time with a cardless fix, I couldn't say SV. 6 month ago I think I could have. That's not to say they won't be back at the top again.
I'm looking to get a new unit, but I'm going to wait it out a bit. Been looking at a SV 360 or a conaxsat. To be honest the conax has had better support of late.

Re: With N3 looming on the horizon...
SonicView was always good in my mind, until I lost all PPVs & a lot of other channels on both SV4000 & SV360 for months now.
Noone can tell me why this happened & I have replaced everything short of the receivers.
So my old CoolSat4000 works now & gets everything...what can I say???

Re: With N3 looming on the horizon...
It's funny how things change and then change back. Not long ago (in the big scheme of things), I bought a Visionsat because Norw group was one of the first with the fixes. Then they turned to one of the last and I got a CW800 (needed another unit anyway). It seemed to be one of the first out so the Visionsat basically got shelved for a while.
Now CW is slower to respond to the ECM's and Visionsat is one of the first again.
I guess the moral is don't rely strictly on what is happening today. It will change tomorrow.
