bev Transitioning to 8psk April 1st
C&P
bev Transitioning to 8psk April 1st
Those that don't have an 8psk module or a receiver that can't have a module installed might want to get one or a different receiver.
C&P from a post made yesterday on a reputable board....
"The switch to 8PSK is scheduled to begin on April 1st, so all the old 6000 models are being replaced by the new 6131's.
Bell are sending out letters now to inform people of the free swap out.
The 6000 is the only affected receiver, all other HD receivers, 6100, 6131, 6141, 9200, 9241 & 9242 can handle the 8PSK."
.......................................
As of March 31, 2009, your model 6000 HD recevier will not be compatible with our latest technology; therefore, it is necessary we upgrade it. To show our thanks for your loyalty, we are pleased to provide an exchange for our latest HD receiver, or you can take this opportunity to upgrade to our top-of-the-line HD PVR.
Free upgrade to our latest HD receiver model.
Directly exchange your current receiver for our newest model and:
- View up to 3 hours and 9 channels with your onscreen Programming Guide
- Get access to interactive content
- Turn your receiver into a PVR by attaching an external hard drive
Or upgrade to our latest HD PVR for as low as $375 and get all the features listed above, plus:
- Ability to watch and record 2 live programs, or record 2 programs while watching a third recorded program
- The most recording capacity - up to 200 hours of digital programming (30 hours in HD)
Please call 1 866 xxx-xxxx today with the option you have chosen. Also note, that you will be required to return your model 6000 HD receiver within 30 days of making a selection to avoid being charged. You will receive instructions on how to return your old receiver.
...................
end c/p
i have a feeling this thread will end up being moved to the fta news section by the sounds of things folks.

Re: bev Transitioning to 8psk April 1st
ok.well thing is,there is no mention of "turbo 8psk" nor mpeg4 compression.
so im not sure if there is really any reason for concern.
Cypris of team viewsat posted this info,in the vs max hd section:
8PSK and Turbo 8PSK is there a difference?
Yes 8PSK is pretty much a standard type of modulation used by many including many FTA satellites. This is a better modulation then the main DVB standard of QPSK. The VS MAX, 9000HD SV8000HD and pretty much all FTA HD receivers can do 8PSK right out of the box. Don’t get this confused with the Turbo 8PSK that DN uses. This is what the Add-on Module does. Many have become to call it an 8PSK Module or 8PSK Add-on however they are wrong. In fact it is a Turbo 8PSK Add-ON Module and adds the ability to demodulate DN Turbo 8PSK modulation they use. Hence DN advertising AD for Turbo HD or Turbo charging your HD cause in fact they use Turbo 8PSK. Let’s not confuse QPSK, 8PSK and Turbo 8PSK with Mpeg2 and Mpeg 4. Mpeg 2 and Mpeg 4 are a type of Video compression like MP3 is an audio compression but QPSK, 8PSK and Turbo 8PSK are a type of Modulation.

Re: bev Transitioning to 8psk April 1st
Thanks for the clarification, I thought Turbo HD was mainly a marketing gimick, a means of promoting 8psk to the masses. Thus meaning that an add on card would be required.

i beg to differ with this.....i dont really agree.....
the 8psk module basically upgrades an exsisting mpeg-2 reciever to an mpeg-4 reciever.....
when you buy an HD FTA reciever such as the SV8000 (just an example) it is an mpeg-2 reciever out of the box.....the 8psk module upgrades the reciever to an mpeg-4 reciever......
the 8psk module doesnt really have anything to do with HD content.....the 8psk module allows you to view mpeg-4 broadcasts.....wether they be in SD or HD is irrelevant......

Re: bev Transitioning to 8psk April 1st
Has nothing to do with N3 my friend, it's being used right now by Dn for HD channels and will now be used by Bev for HD channels also.

Re: bev Transitioning to 8psk April 1st
So are BEV switching to 8psk or 8psk turbo? Will Bev HD watchers(Nfusion) have to buy the add-on module?

Re: bev Transitioning to 8psk April 1st
From what I've read there is a difference in 8psk and 8psk turbo. It is as follows:
Quote:
|
Broadcom's 8PSK turbo code FEC (Foward Error Correction) "increases information throughput by 35 percent over QPSK. 8psk Turbo Code 2/3 FEC add's about 10% data throughput over 8psk Viterbi RS 2/3 FEC. For DN that means going from 39.6 Msp/s (Mega Samples Per Second) to 43 Msp/s per transponder giving them 7 HD Channels @ 6.15 Msp/s each.

Heres an interesting read on the patent of 8psk turbo. Its quite lengthy and full of technical jargon. http://www.patentstorm****/patents/6...scription.html
