Slingers
Here's a c/p about this new "device" that supposedly will off N3 programming.
Quote:
Dear potential customers.
After long wait and scarcity of information we finally ready to answer all your questions. We have these Slingers in stock but only in a limited number therefore price follows the rules of supply and demand. There will be two ways Slingers can be used.
In a private setup where you have an ISO 7816 card you want to share on IP based network like the Internet or your LAN and one where you rely on a commercial server to provide you with the packets over the Internet.
If you decide to share your card with selected people, you need to insert your card in the back of the slinger and then insert the provided ISO 7816 interface in your receiving device. The Slinger will capture the needed packets and send them to your selected people over the IP network, all who need a Slinger setup on their end. All these Slingers will also have to be connected to the Internet or your LAN to receive the necessary packets.
If you don't have a card to share and don't have a friend who has one to share you can rely on a third party server to provide you with required packets. This service will be free for the first 3 months from the date you notify them of your wish to use services. After the first 3 months they will charge a yearly fee of $60 to access their server.
We will release the required software in a fey days you will use to program Slinger device in one of three modes.
- Slinger Server.
- Slinger Client for private network.
- Slinger Client for public server.
This software is also used to program in settings particular to your network architecture.
Please post your questions here and I will try to answer them.
Best Regards

Re: Slingers
It sounded pretty plausible but I wouldn't touch it....since it leaves your i.p hanging out there. Just wondered if it was in fact for real or another scam item.
p.s. Who is "milli" I know the dooda guys name was at the end of the c/p but who is he?

Re: Slingers
Did some reading on this almost a month ago and from what I gather but not quite sure is that you can't get true fta on these things.

Re: Slingers
It sounds risky to me. If it is true, and when porn and ppv go away in a few weeks, there maybe a lot of people that run over to this and try it. If the fta companies have anything up thier sleves with n3 now maybe a time to put a progress report on it. Many may think of no news is bad news.

Re: Slingers
The slingers allow you to set up your own IKS network (with 40 or more of your 'friends') or be part of one that you'll subscribe to as I understand it.

Re: Slingers
With all the Bev and DN models listed that works with this. If you get busted, your not going to have the "for true FTA usage" to get you out of hot water. This could give DN the teeth that DTV had in court.
