VS Ultra Lite Newbie

Hi All - I'm 3 weeks new to FTA land. I got myself a puzzling problem and desperately need your help. I've read all the posts in this section but none describe my VS UL problem. So here goes..

As soon as I connect the satellite cable to the VS Ultra Lite box, the TV screen blanks out. The VS Ultra Lite front display also blanks out. The menu comes back after 10-15 seconds when I disconnect the satellite cable.

Please help..

never connect or disconnect cable with back switch on
it will fry your disqc switch

when menu comes up do a factory default but write down your antenna settings first because you will have to redo them

Thanks for the replies..
Here's what I did to follow the steps:
1) Power off the recvr
2) Unplug the satellite cable
3) Power on the recvr
4) Reset to factory default from the menu
(Its a brand new VS Ultra Lite, so I have not yet setup anything to write down for settings)
5) Power off the recvr
6) Plug the satellite cable (made sure its Sat In port)
7) Turn on the recvr
.....I have been waiting for 45min and there's nothing on the TV screen and nothing on the recvr LED front display either...

What am I doing wrong?
Is the recvr box malfunctioning?
