Hello and help
Hi there,
I'm looking forward to meeting new folks. I have a question that I am hoping someone can help me with.
My wife is Turkish and we subscribe to paid Turkish TV. DFH-1 through DFH-5.
The problem is the receiver that she got is not so hot. S-video only, and my flat panel doesn't take S-video any more. I would like composite or better yet HDMI and a PVR would be even better. It has a slot for a smart card, which we have. Can anyone recommend a receiver that can do all this ?
I live in Mississauga Ontario, so anyone local that could help would be really appreciated. I'm a noob, so be gentle !!
Thanks in advance
Ross

Re: Hello and help
Hello and welcome. You should be able to buy a converter of some sorts that will allow you to use the svideo connection. Who are you subbing from?

Re: Hello and help
Hitch9,
Welcome to ABA. You came to the right place for your answers.
Not knowing who you sub from makes it hard for us to recommend a receiver. So let us look at adapters.
Going from S-video to HDMI would not be a good solution as you are converting an analog signal to digital signal. Moreover the quality would not be good. However there is an S-video to component adapter but I am not sure you will gain any better quality as the source is still an s-video output. Here is a link to an adapter --
Compuvest Corp.
Your best bet will be to look into a receiver upgrade from your provider as any generic receiver will not work with your smart card. Or let us know who your provider is and we can go from there.
Enjoy your visit/stay here.
