Just doing some homework
Hello everyone,
I've lurked around here for a few days reading some posts, and after reading Carpenter's "do's and dont's" for newbies, I finally feel confident enough to post. I'm curious about FTA and am doing some homework(as I always do) before making a purchase. As a young man I got burned plenty on impulse buying! I have known Charlie for about 8 years now, but lately he's becoming an expensive friend. I could lessen my association with him, but that wouldn't do with my wife and son as they like all that he has to offer. That said, let's get down to some of my homework questions:
I own a D300, D500, D500P, and a D1000. I have been looking at the
Nfusion Nova as it seems to be one that would require little input from my less than computer literate spouse.(once it's set up and running) I don't want calls at work saying the tv is down and I can't watch anything! I do have a question: Is there a viewer guide that would make surfing pretty much as easy as it has been in the past? You know, information and all?
I'm not going to jump into something that would make Momma unhappy, because as we all know, "if Momma ain't happy, nobody's happy". I know a guy who just got a viewsat and we may go to his house and look at it ourselves.
Any help you could give me to help make a decision would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Re: Just doing some homework
In FTA world no one is Bullet proof....And we anticipate that... For the current TOP 3 FTA receiver is Viewsat-Sonicview-Captiveworks... I have Viewsat and Sonicview and i love it. Great support team and Nice Receiver easy to USE...
About Nfusion Nova i dont have it... But in receiver reviews, Nfusion Nova is Great too..
BTW Welcome to ABAdss.. Nice to have you here Buddy.

Re: Just doing some homework
Welcome to ABA!
When you finish your home work you can come on over and do mine...lol
Testing is always a lesson and you'll get plenty of help with your homework right here at ABA. I enjoy both nfusion and viewsat. There are programs for personalizing your channels such as channel master & channel editor for both of these units.

Re: Just doing some homework
A sonicview, viewsat, conaxsat, or captiveworks will help keep momma happy. They are great boxes with great support.
Recently the Nfusion has been a bit sketchy and users are getting frustrated. Although, when the mighty "N" is working good it is almost unstoppable.
Saying that. When the Ecm's occur, any of the boxes I listed never seem to be down long. If you setup an elliptical dish w/ 3 standard lnb's and 1 universal you will be able to get 82,91,110,118 & 119. This way you are hitting B3V and DN. I seems they dont go down together that often so an ecm wont hurt as much.
Or you can setup a motor and get more but there will be a lag between channel changes that does not happen w/ the elliptical and 4 lnbs.

Re: Just doing some homework
Hello and welcome. Like others were saying Nfusion is a bit tricky right now and needs to be connected to the internet, there are plenty of good, easy to use stand alone receivers out there.

Re: Just doing some homework
What I liked about the Nfusion was the wireless capability. Does yours do wireless? I have seen memberships on the sites that sell them and I am going to assume it will give your receiver access to whatever it needs when it becomes available.

Re: Just doing some homework
The wireless part is just so you dont need to be beside your router.
eg. Router in the living room. You would plug in the powerline adapter to your power outlet. You will need to connect a ethernet cable from your router to the powerline adapter, then you will need to do the same for your Nfusion. (plug in wall outlet then connect to receiver) You still need a cable running from the Sat to receiver so it is not truly wireless

Re: Just doing some homework
I want to thank everyone for the very timely responses. I think my best bet at this time would be to purchase one of the moderately priced models and play around with it while Charles still is hanging around. That way I can integrate the family slowly and not make an abrupt change.
I love this place already!!!!
