Hello - From Shortwave to FTA
Hello to all!
I greatly enjoy this site, great people and information. Keep up the great work
I own an SV HD-8000 with DP 1000.2 (installed and working well) and a farily Big 36" Dish with Invacom Quad LNB and HH 90 USLAS Motor setup (yet to be installed). I plan on using an inline 22Khz splitter/switch for seamless operation...I hope.
Way back, shortaly after they invented electricty, I built a Heathkit Shortwave Radio and hung a looooong wire up in the backyard and listened to faraway places like Radio Russia, China, Netherlands, Cuba, England, and many others. I was amazed that with a little effort I could hear things most people could not and didn't care to. Anyway, ever since I have lways been facinated with what the "AIR" has hidden within it. Broadcasts from around the world and an amzing variety of content.
Then I learned about FTA, researched it and implemented what seems to be a pretty good system and I have come to appreciate it much the same way I did my first shortwave radio.
FTA is really a low to moderate cost replacement for that same hobby, obtaining information and quality entertainment from around the world...sky surfing. Nothing but fun.
I anticipate once my larger 36" motorized dish is up, scanning the sky will be very rewarding and again I am very impressed with this site and the great people and information here.
I have been extremely happy with the SV HD8000 so far, it is a great geek gadget, pretty darn amazing and above all tons of FUN!
My best to everyone and THANKS!
Bobbster

Re: Hello - From Shortwave to FTA
Welcome to the site. Sounds like you have done your research and are well on your way. The technology is so completely modular now compared to the Heathkit days. I too used a long wave DX ant and SWL'd around the world. Now we're DXing sats from 22,000 miles out with QRP power of 60W.
Enjoy your hobby and your membership with ABAdss.

Re: Hello - From Shortwave to FTA
hello, welcome to abadss, the best fta site on the net!!
this is much more than just a place to get files. it is a community with dedicated members,
forums for just about anything, social groups, your own profile page, access to a weekly poker game,
and too much more to list.
make ABADSS your first stop for everything fta and you will be rewarded with much more.
reading is the best way to learn, use the search option to find posts related to your specific problem.
if you still need help post a question in the proper forum.
helpful hints:
* read and understand the site rules to guide you through our many forums.
* hard reboot with the switch on back of your receiver solves many minor issues.
* before you unplug your receiver, or disconnect any connection including the
switch or lnb ALWAYS REMEMBER to turn the receiver off using the switch on back of the receiver.
you could burn up your switch or mess up your settings if you dont.
* post your type of receiver, your antenna settings, and explain your problem well to receive the best help.
* you need to upgrade your membership to access the files section on this site. this can be done by
clicking upgrade membership at the top of the page. it is free to join the site, ask questions and receive help.
you can upgrade at any time.
* hijacking threads is confusing and not wanted here at abadss. see the site rules to understand
better about hijacking threads. to avoid this start your own thread in the proper forum
if you have any questions.
* this is an informative and friendly site devoted to the fta hobby. the members
and moderators will be glad to help in any way they can.
enjoy the forums and come back often!
