FLUSHING, New York (Ticker)—All play at the U.S. Open was suspended for the day on Saturday as the heavy rain that began falling during the afternoon session was expected to continue for the rest of the day and night in New York.
Play will resume on Sunday with the completion of the men’s semifinal between Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, which the top-ranked Spaniard was trailing by two sets to love but 3-2 up in the third before rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm Hanna brought a halt after two hours and a minute of play at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Saturday night’s scheduled women’s singles final has been postponed until Sunday with every possibility that the men’s final, which Roger Federer reached earlier in the day on Saturday, being moved to Monday evening.

Players were sent home for the day within 40 minutes of Nadal and Murray’s match being suspended at 2:48 p.m. local time.
