Do you belive in the after life
Hope everything going well for you all.
There has been 2 deaths in my family. Both were out of town. Was able to get there & spend time with both before they passed. I going to miss them but glad there pain is gone.
The one cousin last words were "look Mom gram Henery's here". It's nice to think death is just a step to somewhere better.
I have had 2 near death experience
1st I almost drowned @ 4 yrs was swimming but got sucked into a whirlpool, even saw the light. The weird thing is while I was being saved it was like I was pulled away from the light.
2nd @ 5 yrs was playing with a electric socket & tea strainer. Doc said I was lucky with that one. The metal from the tea strainer was so thin it burnt apart instead of being a circuit. Don't remember much from that one except 3 black fingers for a really long time.
I was just wondering if any of you all had a thought about whats after death or an experience yourself.

Don't believe in any of it, after life, God & etc. Something man has made up for the times he feels weak & insecure. When it is gone it is gone so enjoy the NOW!

Re: Do you belive in the after life
I'm a Christian and fully believe that we will go to another place when we pass. Depending on if you've accepted Jesus Christ as your savior will ultimately determine where you end up.
I know this because the Bible states it.
I consider myself a "curious layperson". And as such, I do find it interesting that in the Bible we have this self-confident document that is thousands of years old...yet casually makes claims that seem to jibe with what is intimated in the weird world of 21st century quantum physics. These are claims that would have been so implausible to the Bible's human authors that they surely would have suppressed them to make the whole thing more believable and user-friendly had they not been telling the truth, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
IMHO

Re: Do you belive in the after life
I agree with Fossil and Tiger-
First the Bible, written by 40 authors over a period of 1600 years between 1503BC and 100AD has the central theme as "salvation thru Jesus" that has remained consistent. Prophesies from the old testament have been fulfilled in the birth, death and the resurrection of Jesus. History is also proof of the existence of Jesus. Even the middle verse (central theme) of the Bible which is Psalm 118:8 says "it is better to trust in the Lord". Coincidence? Very surely not.
Second, because I believe that the bible is true(based on above statement and other things), the Bible says that there is a heaven and hell. If you are accept Jesus as your saviour, you do go to heaven, but more than that, you get to see God in a personal way. Being a Christian is not about religion, but about a personal relationship with God thru His Son Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit.
My mom was dead for 45 minutes and thru prayer, pleading with God to give her back to us(we kids were very little at that time), God was gracious to send her back to us and she lived a full life until she was 86. She remembers a pleasant 45 minutes and was always waiting to go back there and was not afraid of death, because she was a Christian and ready to meet God.
For more info in the Bible read -
Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Hebrews 9:27; Revelatiion 3:30; John 1:12
And Rocmoc - you may be quite surprised at what you may find when you really look into the Bible. Why dont you give it a read? What if it is true? Is that a chance you want to take? You dont loose anything by looking into it.
Hope this helps.

Re: Do you belive in the after life
I respect your beliefs guys, I truly do as I would hope you could respect mine. I have to agree with jeffn. I didnt even want to reply to the thread because of how uncomfortable it made me feel. I mean no disrespect, or to argue with anyone's beliefs, but I dont think this is the place to have such a discussion.
I dont even want to share my opinions on the question at hand for fear of insulting the good people here at aba. I have too many friends that have a faith, and I wouldnt want to insult anyone, but I just dont share in the faith, and that does not mean I am a bad person or something horrible will happen to me in the event of death. I hope you all understand my position.
Sorry.

Lonster,
No need to be sorry. Everyone has a right to what they believe. No offense taken or intended. Just an honest answer to an honest question.
Have a good weekend, all!

Re: Do you belive in the after life
I know there is a after life and if you ask the Lord for forgiveness and ask to be saved in his holy name you will go to a wonderful place life ever more. I am a Bible thumper as they call us sometimes and how anyone can deny the Lord Jesus Christ is beyond me. My Bible was written many many years ago and if you read it You will see that what is happening today is all in there and it was written many years ago. I have lived with Death all my life. I have witnessed many of my family, moments before death and they always, not just sometimes but always speak to someone that has gone before them I believe God sends one of our loved ones to help us cross over to heaven. It's for sure I wouldn't want to go to Hell even if there was 1 chance in 10 billion I want that one chance to be in heaven with my son. Every day I ask God to forgive my sins because we are all sinners and it's only through Jesus Christ can we ever hope to be in heaven and have ever lasing life as he has promised.
I feel so sorry for the one's that denies God . If it wasn't for the Anchor of the Lord I don't think I would still be here. God has gotten me through many things that by all rights I should be dead but he still had work here on earth for me to do so here I am, Preaching again sorry but I love talking about my God and Saviour. He gives me peace when there is no peace. Right now I have a son that has been missing for 4 weeks no one knows where he is or what has happened to him, but I know he is in God's hands and that gives me hope and peace.

Re: Do you belive in the after life
Life after death is not about religion, but there is more after this.
Spiritual beings have eternity.
I too almost died young by drowning...it was very peaceful & nothing to fear.
Anybody who wants to learn more about religion (the history of it) should read the book by William Bramley "The Gods of Eden". 600 pages of serious documented history.
A must read for all.
It shows how the Catholic Church (way back in history) removed reincarnation from the Bible to help control the masses via fear. (no offence to Catholic folks, just quoting the book)
Reincarnation = Eternity (you can't kill a spirit)

Re: Do you belive in the after life
I repect all your beliefs and enjoy reading people's way of thinking. But I belief untill you make your own mine on how things work then you are save. And again I do not like to talk about the Bible but if you study the whole thing the Bible was writen by man for man and enjoy what you know. If you want to go with what someone wrote you are a good person and if you go with what you belief and has come from you you are also a good person.
There has not been ONE person that has been die and has come back to tell us what is out there for us after life, so all of us are only guessing on what is next. So let us enjoy what we have here today.

Re: Do you belive in the after life
No, I don't believe there is life after death. I have studied near-death experiences, and although I believe people have them, I believe those experiences are produced by their oxygen starved brains shortly before all neural activity stops or after it returns. The accounts of seeing or knowing things they could not have known without leaving the body I think can be better accounted for by natural processes. Susan Blackmore has done some great research in this area.

Re: Do you belive in the after life
well, outside links probably are banned, like in any other site. i'll simply pm you with it. you can read for your Self, it is not easy reading, took me only four years.
but you will have any question answered.
as of a small mental exercise - maybe for everyone - try two things:
1. imagine yourself never existing before. do your best
2. imagine yourself not existing anymore. do your best
you'll fail on both counts. reason being, you are of immortal, just confusing your-Self with a mortal body, which results in "mortal" type thinking, attitudes, 'science", perception, etc..
i'd rather stop here, as truly it is not a metaphysical forum. i'll be honored to pm anyone interested and open minded with that link. no, it is not a soliciting. link is to a foundation that has everything that needs to be made available to humanity - available at no cost. maybe some mental effort on seeker's behalf.
be well and let The Light be with you.

Re: Do you belive in the after life
How many versions of the Bible are there?? New, Old, Updated. It's just a BOOK, written by man, to tell a bunch of stories, some true, some fable, some a mix of both.
It's no wonder there are so many many stories(written by 40 men)
Politics and Religion are just ways of controlling the masses. You(general), have given to both entities(Politics&Religion) for centuries, making each very very rich.
They have always crossed each others paths since the Bible came out. Just like evolution, they morph into something for everyone, but never anything for ALL, hence WARS.
I'm glad there was a Jesus, but not happy about his Autobiography called the Bible.
Remember, before the Bible(written by man), Gods were of Nature, Elements, and the Skies.
Oh, and one more very important fact, women were not part of its writing, that alone convinces me they missed by a long shot. Who said Adam & Eve.
.
I also must say that I grew up in the time of Conspiracy theorists, and most of us who are 38-55 are predisposed to it.

I think the number is 24 versions of the New Testament. (which one do you subscribe to?) SJ

Re: Do you belive in the after life
Zeke,
Thanks for saying what I couldn't.
I would just like to add based on this quote and sayings that are the same.....
Quote:
|
I feel so sorry for the one's that denies God .
|
I do not need anyone to "fear for me" or for "my soul"...... I find sayings like this to be a completely ignorant thing to say, I do not and will not judge others for their beliefs in religion or faith. And I most certainly would not impose my own beliefs upon others.
It is very offensive to have someone say such things, because no one knows for sure what will happen.
I could easily reply that "I fear you are wrong" or "what if you are wrong" then what? What if it is just a book that was written and rewritten with the times and adapted to the current age with the intentions to instill fear in others.
Here is a fine example for arguments sake (in which I have actually said to the door knockers that try to force themselves, their beliefs and even force their way into my home to "Speak the gospel".)
"What if I wrote a book of a gopher and a squirrel mating and having babies, and rewrote it over time to have it pertain to the current age, would you believe it? Would you live your life based on the gopher and squirrel?"
Now as I said in my first post, I mean no insults, but I find it amazing how some people are so quick to insult or look down upon others who do not share in the beliefs they have.

For me and mine, we very much believe and trust in God. There has always been doubter and there will ALWAYS be doubters. Just let Go. They like all of us will be judged. I could tell you similar stories that has happened in my family. Not trying to convert anyone. That is not my job and is beyond me. Just remember to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. If you want the chapter and verse let me know if not, no problem. Beating someone over the head with the Christmas gift you got them will not make them want it anymore
