Modded cable modem anyone?
Now I'm sure there are some folks here running a modded cable modem. I would like to know your experience's on running one. Specifically Comcast (or any will do for that matter) as another thread kind of spurred me to start this thread. I know for a fact without a shadow of a doubt, 100% that Comcast cable modems can be hacked and can be hacked relatively easily. I've seen one operating with my own eyes.....
Comcast has as c.g said in the other thread one of the weakest (FACT) security systems for internet usage. All thats required is an active cable tv line into the house.....a "pre mod" modem SB5100 and up will work, a jtag and a nice little program called "haxorware". Leave the MAC alone as well as the cert. with that MAC. Put in a tftp server and a "fast" config. D11 configs are recommended. Change your DNS in your tcp/ip settings to 208.67.222.222 and you will get right passed the "walledgarden" config. file. "What if they ban my MAC Mr. emsudos"? Well in that case you change the last octet of your MAC to 5E, delete out the tftp server and config file and see if that gets you online. If it doesn't then you may need to change the MAC all together which will null your cert. (you will then ONLY be able to use D10) config. files...not Comcast's fastest. "What does D10 and D11 stand for Mr. emsudos"? D10 stands for Docsis 1.0 and D11.....you guessed it Docsis 1.1. "What do the numbers after the config file mean Mr. emsudos"? Well the config in this file d11_m_sb5101_bciwidebandstarter_c05.cm can have the MAC changed 5 times.
As far as tracking you down....Comcast can track you as far as the "node" which will contain anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand customers. Warning though IF you go crazy and download gigs of material or do something stupid like threats or some **** thing....they can and will find you. Its also not a good idea to use a "hacked" cable modem to check your email, instant messaging or banking....anything that they can capture packets of and use to identify you.
Now if anyone has any information to the contrary on how easy it is to get online or how easy they can catch you doing this....post away. However it won't float just posting that your brother in laws daughters fiance' works for Comcast and he said you can be caught....I want concrete evidence.

Re: Modded cable modem anyone?
I wouldn't touch one with a 10ft pole. I would buy an iks receiver before I would get a hacked cable modem.

Nice rebuttal btw......they are actually the ONLY safe way to run IKS. In fact if you go to any of the Surfboard hacking forums....people are grabbing up modems just to run an IKS machine on. You don't need a computer to run an IKS machine on a hacked cable modem....once its set up that is. Hide the modem behind your tv with the IKS machine plugged in and no one is the wiser. People are also using them to run their own servers for private cardsharing.

Re: Modded cable modem anyone?
Nothing wrong with running a pre-mod modem. I am using on to post this. You need a pre-mod modem and a good mac of a modem, that is not on the same node. You can fun a fast config. If you you use the config associated with the valid mac, it no different that going legit. Forcing a confing means using a tftp server on your network, not a big deal. but the other eay is you just use a good mac and forget about it. Running wide open uncapped, is not recommended. If you Haxoware is popular, but I use Sigma X from TCNISO, for about 6 years. The TCNISO Comcast forum would be a good place to start.

Re: Modded cable modem anyone?
I would say if your goal with the modded modem is to insure anonymity on your IKS, then the only thing hooked up to it should be your IKS. cable is great in the fact that you can use a cheapo splitter and have a sub'd and hacked modem sitting right next to each other on the same wall outlet. really you could have 20 of any combination of the 2 and a 100 tv's on top.
I don't think comcast can see much more than a level of subscribed bandwidth vs actual bandwidth at the end of the trunkline(I think there is already too much math involved to thiis point, comcast billing dept is like "Huh...") ..they could then compare the difference to see IF someone is stealing their service, and how much bandwidth is unacounted for at that point. tracking you down from there would be insanely time consuming and any cumcat employee's brain would be mush by this point..

As I understand it the hacked modem does exactly what the regular one does except it has no ISP provider address so there is just about no way it can be traced. For IKS purposes looks like it's just what the doctor ordered. It's also supposed to be much faster because the ISP can't throttle or limit it's bandwith. As long as you are not hogging a lot of bandwith by doing a lot of downloading you should stay under the radar screen. Just my two cents

Re: Modded cable modem anyone?
You are exactly correct Bohanna. Its an excellent way to run IKS.....just in case they ever get a hold of a server....they have an i.p that traces to back to who? Nobody because the MAC running that i.p will also trace to nobody. Its also an excellent venue to run a card sharing server with.....

I use Charter not Comcast. Are you saying you dont need a provisioned MAC to make it work. Mine works fine, but not without a good MAC. I am using a MAC from Alabama and I live in Texas. If Charles get a hold of a server and starts logging IPs, some dude in Alabama is gonna be pissed.

From what I know bat....no you do not need a "valid" MAC to get online...its controlled by the DNS they use. I have however read that in areas where they have upgraded to "Docsis 3.0" that you do need to change to a valid MAC in some instances. Also if they ban your MAC you may need to "sniff" for some and use another.

Re: Modded cable modem anyone?
Those who Pay internet DONT pay no more get ur *** to radio shark and buy a modem rca works nice surfboard is great!rca o.k,.. i pay 55$ first then it went up to 70 in less then 2 years i went crazy.. fallowed this
Surfboard 5100/RCA DCM315
Targeted ISP:Comcast,
Please read each step slowly and thoroughly before attempting. Patience is key. With the information provided,
You will be on your way to getting online with your newly purchased Modded Modem. Also remember to keep your coax cable disconnected throughout all the procedures listed below, until notified to plug it back.
Please use our forum to get a config file for your modem. We highly encourage you to use the d11 config files as they use the latest docsis 1.1 technology.
Final Step - Bypassing the Comcast page
Go to start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right click your active network adapter > Choose Properties
Choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Then Click properties, and you should see these boxes
Alternative DNS Servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
^^ those work for me ^^ but the 4223 is ok also
Make sure and set yours to the settings I have it set at, 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220, this bypasses Comcast's registration page and gives you access straight to internet with Modded Modem.
If you are connected through a router, change the DNS on the router to 208.67.222.222 or one of the others listed here.
THATS HOW U GET FREE INTERNET!!! DO IT just for FUn ULD SEE
if u think im lieying come and kill me i live in 322 spruce st, chelsea ma 02150 im not playin around fvk this internet crap went u can get it free !!!N FASTER THEN THE PROVIDER U HAVE!
