Back Swtich: Good or Bad?

Hey guys,

I was wondering... is it a good idea to always shut off a receiver from the back switch??? I have a VS 9000HD and seriously don't wanna screw it up by using the back switch every time I wanna watch something. Is it OK if I leave the switch on, but just shut it off from the remote?? What are you recommendations on this one???

Thanks.

You should only have to turn it off by the back switch when you are disconnecting the sat feed from the unit. You might what to use a surge protector to protect the unit and sat fed, if your worried about damaging the stb.

Sat feed is the Satalite feed line or called the coax or RG cable line you have coming in from your satalite dish. The "satalite in" spot on your stb (set top box, or your hd receiver) is where this line goes. Your stb actually sends out voltage back to your satalite dish, so therefore turning it off when disconnecting this line is important. You can get a surge protector that will stop power surges to both the coax and the power cord.

The upload of some BIN files recomend that you do a Hard Reboot (Powering the box off with the back switch) or if your box 'freezes'
You should also use the back switch when replacing a D!SEqC switch or LNB
Other than this, you should not have to use the switch, you can power the box with your remote.

Re: Back Swtich: Good or Bad?

You should be okay either way. It is just like any other appliance. You do not save anything by turning it off from the back except when connecting cables or switches.

Re: Back Swtich: Good or Bad?

thanks a lot to all of you. I guess I'm just gonna use an extra switch, cuz if I leave it open all the time, I'll just feel bad for the little fan inside
