by simply adding a tv tuner card into your pc or using an external usb tuner card. use the pvr software that comes with the device or search the net for advanced pvr controls and functions.this may not be practical for everyone as you need to run video/audio cables from the stb to the pc.but a great way to personal video recording with a standard fta receiver and especially good if your pc already has a dvd burner for making hard copies latter.

Signal strength as measured by your receiver is an interpretation of the EIRP (Effective Isotropic Radiated Power) received from the satellite. This measures the result of a signal uplinked to a satellite, then amplified and downlinked to your dish, and across the cabling and connectors into your receiver.
Quality is the measurement of how well your lnb is picking up the amplified frequencies of the corresponding transponders on the satellite.

the strength/level meter is the stb reading the lnb.
the quality meter is the stb actually reading satellite signal.
