HD receivers? Need your advise !!!
Hi all,
I am currently using Coolsat 6100 for DishNetwork. I am looking for an HD receiver for my new 1080P HDTV. I need to know what's is the best brand out there in the market? Both quality and support wise? How about Captain 8000 HD? Is this compatible with DishNetwork? I read it some where that Captain 8000HD is only for BEV...This is the cheapest among all other HD receivers?
Please advise.
Thanks for your help.

Re: HD receivers? Need your advise !!!
I have both SV8000HD and the VS9000hd both with 8psk and hooked up to my Sony 55 inch 1080p both with HDMI cables and IMHO the VS9000HD looks better and has less heating problems and yes both of the receivers have the fan inside the SV8000 over heats and goes black. I unplug let it cool for a few and then it's back up. Please keep in mind this is just my point of view. Good luck. And on a side note I'm selling my SV8000 and kepping my VS9000 I really like it and the picture is GREAT. I'm really saving my money for the next Nfusion HD

Re: HD receivers? Need your advise !!!
The Sonicview 8000 seems to get good reviews from those who own it. To get the DN HD stuff, there is an additional add on board you would require (about $200.00). Making it an expensive proposition.
The Captain 8000HD is a very nice unit, cost wise it is one of the most affordable HD units, but the support has been somewhat weak over the past few months ... it is howver a nice unit.

Re: HD receivers? Need your advise !!!
Surrealone gave good refference on two of the most popular HD receivers. Great support on both units as well.
Captain 8000HD does not support the 8psk module, so you wont be able to get DN HD channels.

Re: HD receivers? Need your advise !!!
I have more than one sv8000hd with 8psk modules and one is earlier version without cooling fan and one with and both run 24/7 and no heating problem issue and I have tried a friends captain8000hd and sv8000hd is far better in my observation in using it and setting it up for my friend.I'm also testing nfusion nova, neosat 2000pvr,viewsat ultra,sonicview1000pvr,sonicview4000.

If I remember correctly, the only receivers that support the 8psk module for DN channels are the SV9000, VS8000 and Pansat9000

You need a 8psk HD module to watch DN HD channels. If you only have B3V then you do not need the add-on module.

Re: HD receivers? Need your advise !!!
i think it would be well advised to get something with the 8psk as with the bev card swap in the works it will be hard to determine the length of down time associated with new bins and new cards. i have also read somewhere where bev is also now able to move to 8psk.

You're right Haz. With all the planed changes by the providers we need to try to keep up with them and plan ahead.
