Watch this!!! Funny stuff!
It was in the 60"s here yesterday, so I went and worked on my boat. I'm getting the itch to go fishing. Anyway I thought about this video my friend took when I took her out on my boat last summer. In case someone has not heard of the asian carp. It is a fish that has gotten into the rivers in the midwest. Although the video is funny. It has become a major problem for us around here! The rules have changed for us fishermen. These suckers can knock you out of the boat if they hit you right!!!!!! Check it out. here is the link. YouTube - Flying Carp on th Illinois River

Re: Watch this!!! Funny stuff!
Thats the greatest thing i have seen recently...really amazing. I could see how those fish can knock you out of your boat. Those fish make it easy for you, you don't even need tackle or anything. Just drive around and they catch themselves for you.

I have not heard of anyone being killed by theses fish yet, but I have heard of some bad injuries from them. People on jet skies are the ones who are getting hurt the most.

I can't say I have ever tried those things! I have cut them up for catfish bait, and I must say that they have the whitest meat I have ever seen on a fish.

they are like shad , they are oily , boney and start to rot within minutes after they hit the land.they are only good for fertilizer.nothing will eat them not even a raccoon and they eat anything.they are good for killing and that is all.

I know the commercial fisherman have been putting their nets out for them last year. I asked one of them at the boat launch who was buying them, and he wouldn't tell me. My guess is it's the mystery fish at Mc D's LOL

I don't know about that. The guys with the hoop nets are taking them out by the hundreds! There must be a market for them somewhere. Dog and cat food would be my real guess.

yes you are correct after doing some surfing i found out that there are more than the one species of Asian carp.they have the black , siver , and bighead and even a couple more.they state that some are actually tasty , some are bottom eaters root for food like the common carp here and some only eat vegetation.
well i am loading the boat and the gill nets land of Lincoln here i come....

Tbass during my surfing i found that you aren't alone in your concern over the great lakes.they have built a 9.1 million dollar electric fence at a lock to help keep them out true it is on the epa's website for invasive species.
