Exclamation RCMP Bust in!!

c/p:

RCMP bust in New Brunswick, Canada // 2008-04-10
MONCTON, N.B. — Two New Brunswick residents are facing charges following the seizure of a large quantity of satellite TV piracy equipment.
RCMP Cpl. Marc Bridges said Wednesday the evidence seized from a home in St. Maurice suggests a commercial-level satellite piracy operation.
Police received information that led to a search Friday.
They seized computers, access cards, card programmers, software and modified satellite TV receivers.
Bridges said the equipment allows users to access satellite channels without paying for them.
Charges are expected to be laid related to the possession, modification and sale of devices used to steal satellite signals.

So careful guys......

Re: RCMP Bust in!!

These were not individual users. They were running a business modifiying receivers with cards. They also kept records which the RCMP also seized.

Re: RCMP Bust in!!

the difference between fta and cards systems .. well if you have fta the reiever its yours, when you use a card the card is a providers property so you are modifing there eguipment to reciever satellite they have a copyright of that equipment and reciever .. fta you are flashing a rom chip and it is yours they the question is are you breaking the copyright law of your own country .. with fta they call it the greay area it has gone to court here in canada several times and the judge has thrown it out he said the anti piracy laws are there to protect the canadian companies not the U.S. companies eg:dn .. so as long as you are not using the providers property (modified ) to get satellite .. you are in the grey ..

we have several compinies here where i live that advertize flashing you fta to reciever dn and they went to court and won as long as they don't touch bev .

you mention bev they will not talk to you at all ..

I'm not sure thats true. I think the latest decision I remember reading found it also illegal to steal DN signal in Canada as well.

Re: RCMP Bust in!!

Bell sucessfully argued at the Supreme court level to have decoding of both its and foreign signals declared illegal. See a news excerpt below and a link to the Supreme court decision.

The case concerned a dispute over Canada’s Radiocommunication Act which a lower court said was written only to prohibit the illegal decoding of Canadian broadcasts, but that could not cover US broadcasts because US companies are not “lawful distributors” in Canada. The lower court had criticised Bell ExpressVu for failing to distinguish between paying subscribers of US signals and those who use decryption equipment. However, the Supreme Court rejected this criticism as misguided, considering that all decoding of US signals is illegal, even if Canadian subscribers are paying for the service.
