Another Which Receiver
I'm was looking a picking up a couple more units and thought i had my mind made up on the CW800 and CNX mini; but, now I'm wondering about the Captain 7000.
It sounds like the Captain will have IKS really soon and maybe the CW800 if it isn't april fools (can't really tell by the posts) a little later.
This is probably a question for Arboristman since he is posting on the captain; but which 2 units do you like the most. I've been looking for the USB loading capabilities, quick support, and if PVR is available it's good but not necessary.
I've currently got a visionsat 200 which is a nice machine; but, support is a little slower than it use to be and I worry about the future as it has the same support group as CS. I need some diversification.
Also, would it be worth it to upgrade the Captain to the 8000HD? The one price I saw by their dealer looks awful low for a HD unit.

Re: Another Which Receiver
Yes, and that is what got me into a quandry. I thought I had it all narrowed down; but, then I saw the Captain posts. Plus another post comparing the picture quality of the Captain to the CNX saying the Captain picture quality was better. I don't have an HD tv right now; but, my rear project is 8 years old now and who knows how much longer it will last so I might as well look for something that will compliment a new TV while I'm doing it.
I know everyone thinks differently; but, I thought some opinions might help.

Re: Another Which Receiver
Have you checked out the sv8000 as there likely the number 1 HD STB at the moment.
That would be a good choice along with a new sharp aquos lcd 46 in tv.. lol..
Works for me!

both good stbs.the cw's 800 is full pvr and mini is basic pvr
oddly the cw 800 cost less.
captain 7000 is ok,but the newer unit the 7100 added a usb port.

captain's support iks right now.they claim ppvs and other premiums are up.
around 200 channels including 1 hd channel to show they can and will be adding them.and of course just to make some fta history of being the first hd iks supported unit is not to bad for the old record either hehe.
you will need an adapter to run it.they are sold currently for about 100$ shipped.

captain 7100
cw 800pvr
both have a better pic than the mini.
cw's overall have better features i think.
i don't like ch reverting in the epg with cnx.this alone keeps me from even using it really.its good, but on many levels i prefer cw.
but you very well could prefer the cnx over the cw.
the captain 7100 is higher quality than both and it shows.the picture quality is far superior.better remote.
all 3 have advantages and disadvantages of eachother in software.overall the cw has most options and features, but what captain does have works better imo.the captain is just a step up,and it shows when you use them side by side.the quality is there and its high.and the results show up on the screen.
pic quality and smooth running can only go so far of course.you need support.and she's nicely supported.both with files and iks support doesn't sound to bad either.

yeah, its always good to have a couple different brands & support groups.

yeah, captains are very low price.but same time Korean made with 5 year warranty.
so don;t let the price scare ya.
they only do mpeg2 hd like many/most actually hd units on the market right now.
mpeg2 hd (what bev uses at 82w for example) is not going to last forever.
at some point its all going to change to mpeg4 hd.
no one knows when bev will make this change however.
but at only around a couple hundred bucks.......
then of course its still good as a regular stb.so can't really lose.not at that price for hd.
but check the captain 9000hd section to check out whats coming from captain soon.
their mpeg4 HD pvr/iks/dvd burning monster.

Re: Another Which Receiver
Thanks for the info. I was ready to purchase this afternoon and called a dealer. They recommended I not purchase one as sales had slowed and they thought Captain was going out of business. They told me they wouldn't be selling anymore once they were out of their stock.
I e-mailed sales at Captain; but, haven't gotten any response yet.
I don't know if it was the dealers way of steering me to a different manufacturer or if they really knew something. It's hard to imagine with the dongle coming out; but, has anyone heard anything like that recently?

they thought wrong.captain is NOT going out of business.
they are just gearing up buddy.
they just brought up iks for all models and will have an mpeg4HD multi media center out soon.
the dealer is not very well informed if they are planning to drop captain units at this point.call them back up and ask them to give you a discount then hahaha.
captains not going anywhere buddy.they are coming out strong and really picked up support to be one of the best.
