XP, XP Pro or Vista?
I currently have XP MCE.... I want better. What is the better OS for a 64bit system?
OSX is said to be able to work also.
Any feedback would be great

Re: XP, XP Pro or Vista?
In my opinion, there isn't any 64-bit OS that are great. But if you had to go 64-bit, I'd choose Vista 64-bit. I had it running for a couple of months with no major issue. I'd still recommend XP Pro 32-bit over anything else though. Or Ubuntu

Ok as far as a choice Itantrite is correct the only true 64 bit system is vista, how ever.... the in-compatabilty issues of vista are so vast that I wouldnt even consider it untill ALL the bugs were worked out of the O.S.
So really i guess that leaves you to xp, or xp pro
both are really the same save for the pro verion allows more admin rights...
Most dont or wont notice the difference...
So in my opinion either xp or pro will suffice untill the mico****(soft) team gets their head outta their asses and produce a 64 bit system that is compatable with ALL ( or heck most) of the programs that are produced for use with out finding a "compatabilty driver" for the new (5000.00 program) you just purchased
Just my opinion though

Re: XP, XP Pro or Vista?
Well I just fried my PC with XP and had to buy this one with VISTA. I can tell you it is day and night as far as performance and especially speed. And the one that crashed was one year old. So far , 1week into the Vista Program I am totally impressed.

Re: XP, XP Pro or Vista?
Vista is a decent operating system, if you know a little bit about computers you can tweak it a bit and it will run smoother. Only downside to vista is the fact that its still a new OS. XP was great when i had it, and i converted one or two computers back to it for certain software and programs to run easier.

Re: XP, XP Pro or Vista?
Good luck,
Even the sp1 pack for vista wont help the higher end programs work...
This has been my experience...
You will need to find "compatability drivers" for such programs
I am not opposed to the newer os systems...
Now as far as speed goes....
try installing xp on the same system and see if it runs 2 times faster than vista will...
every time there is an os upgrade thay also include a lot more data for the system to work with ..thus slowing it down compared to the older system that you just replaced.
I have dont this experiment myself and I know for a fact that the older os runs faster.
Vista is a decent system ... but still has a lot of bugs in it.
Compare it to the floped version (milenium edition) of windows 98...
but at least milenium didnt have compatability issues...
make of it what you will...

Re: XP, XP Pro or Vista?
Do we have any Mac users?
mac osx is a decent OS but how well does it run on a P.C? Does anyone know?
Microsuck is pretty much out because I was hoping to learn something new since SP1 has been released.
Is XP pro 64 a true 64 edition? 64bit is said to be better for security.

Itaintrite....
Ubuntu is open source right?
How secure is an open source OS in comparison, I have tried Ubuntu a couple times with a dual boot install, but never really took the time to familiarize myself with it.
Is it worth a clean installation. Or if a dual boot is the way to go which would be the better OS, Ubuntu or OSX Leopard.
Compatibility is always a problem so I stick with what I have.
Is XP Pro 64 not a true 64 OS?
If I have all of the mentioned OS's accessible what would be the best single OS, or best combination to run to achieve the 64 bit capabilities?
