Re: question
Im sure with the right technology anything is possible in todays world although I dont know how affordable it would be to get that type of equiptment.
I heard that at one time the US government listens to every phone call in the US for certain keywords that would suggest terrorism but no one knows for sure of course. I certainly wouldnt be surprised.

Re: question
Yes absolutely they can, if you use a cordless phone it is very easy for them. A land line is different and could still be tapped but it may not be that easy for your neighbor to do.
Do not talk on the cordless if you dont want to be heard.
A police scanner that could be bought @ radio shack for around a hundred bucks will scan the airwaves for any signals, once it is locked it can be stored for easy access or left on and every time you talk they listen.
My dad had a police scanner when I was a kid.

Re: question
You bet they can if they really want to. like Lonster mentioned a scanner will pick up cordless, cell phones baby monitors etc. If it goes out over the air it can be heard. I used to listen to a scanner years back and you would be surprised at the amount of extra material affairs I heard. It's not illegal to listen but it is illegal to tell anyone what you heard.

Re: question
The most cost effective way is to use a land line. Develop some code to speak in with the other party....
You need to be able to transmit and receive signals using a wireless device so the cost of securing your home for transmitting and receiving would more than likely be out of this world.
Change the channel on your wireless devices frequently if they provide that option to you. It will only change the trail for them to follow but you may be able to avoid constant spying.

Re: question
Newer cordless phones that use the higher freq are best. In short nothing you can do to stop it, best is to use a corded phone however you can easily pick up the phones that the telephone repair guys use and they can tap into your phone from the box outside.

Re: question
Just use the newer cordless phones or a land line phone. Scanners available now cannot catch the high frq. new phones

I had a friend with a new baby and they purchase a baby monitor. This monitor picks up people talk on their cordless phone. The person was about 150 to 200 feet from them. No problem to listen to the conversation on this monitor.

Re: question
I can remember when the original cell phones used to pick up others calls. Some of the tings I have heard. Now a days it is really expense to intercept cell phone calls. Older cordless phones are perceptible, Some newer cordless phones have a encryption. I have heard the same clicking after bad mouthing Bush. lol

Re: question
Get a 6.0 ghz or higher cordless phone,or use an old land line phone.Another alternative would be to use your cell phone for communication, very hard to pick up cell transmissions without modding a scanner, there are none sold today that do,not saying you can't mod one,but they don't sell one.Do you have an idea of who it is.You could set them up ,use your head and be creative. It is very easy to get someone in an uncompromising position my friend, especially when they are listening to your phone calls.
Also do a search on COUNTER-SURVEILLANCE,you would be surprised whats out there my friend, some pretty cool stuff man,FTA ain't the only thing I get into.

Re: question
like has been mentioned about scanners and such i won't mention again but it is also easy to have your landline compromised by a close neighor if they really want to
for this i suggest go outside your home to where the phone box is installed and see if there is any wiring othe than the one incoming from your provider(mainly from a pole but could be from underground)
