Bailout no bailout
Thought I'd take a Poll on the US Bailout package.
Here's a C/P from a very well known Republican.
I am afraid that policymakers today have not learned the lesson that prices must adjust to economic reality. The bailout of Fannie and Freddie, the purchase of AIG, and the latest multi-hundred billion dollar Treasury scheme all have one thing in common: They seek to prevent the liquidation of bad debt and worthless assets at market prices, and instead try to prop up those markets and keep those assets trading at prices far in excess of what any buyer would be willing to pay.
Additionally, the government's actions encourage moral hazard of the worst sort. Now that the precedent has been set, the likelihood of financial institutions to engage in riskier investment schemes is increased, because they now know that an investment position so overextended as to threaten the stability of the financial system will result in a government bailout and purchase of worthless, illiquid assets.
Using trillions of dollars of taxpayer money to purchase illusory short-term security, the government is actually ensuring even greater instability in the financial system in the long term.
The solution to the problem is to end government meddling in the market. Government intervention leads to distortions in the market, and government reacts to each distortion by enacting new laws and regulations, which create their own distortions, and so on ad infinitum.

Re: Bailout no bailout
Two things I want to see done before this happens!
1) freeze all bonuses and pay incresses of the ceo's and executives of the companies that are being bailed out. Why should the tax payers bail them out, just to see the ceo's get a big raise next year!
2) let a bankrupcy judge lower intrest rates on people with morgages with theses companies. This way al least some tax payers will benifite.
Guess who is oposed to theses things! Yup you guessed it BUSH Baby!!!!!

I am happy to see that a lot of people, Dems and Repubs are not willing to rush into this. That refreshing to see.

Re: Bailout no bailout
FREEEZE?? FREEZE??? Their salaries need to be melted down to a reasonable market level now that most of these companies are worthless, other than to the Government and your tax dollars. And since it's your money paying for it anyone who keeps their present salary is LAUGHING all the way to the BANK. No, No, they need a good lesson in Book keeping. The heads need to be lopped off and the salaries that are tied to them. Bonuses, only if hell freezes over and the Vatican allows abortion.
Ney, Ney I say into jail for those Institutions who apply for the money.
700 billion, in 5 years you'll be asking WHERE'S THE MONEY GONE??

Re: Bailout no bailout
It would be very easy to invoke party politics into this. This problem started years ago from both partys (research it).The fact is I don't believe the "LEADERS" that we've had since Reagan have a clue to the fact that you have to let the market fix it's self.
I know that there is pain involved....but some times you gotta bleed.
Stop the hearings and let them fail. they earned it and it is not my responsibilty to pay to clean up there mess

Re: Bailout no bailout
It's a double edged sword. Let them fail, and then loans will be impossible to come by. 70% of americans won't be able to qualify for loans. then lets see where this goes!! It's going to get worst.
The simple fact is the average american right now can't save anything because they are living pay check to pay check!! we as voters need to look at who this country is catering to, and then somehow try to change it!!! We need to stop putting wieght on things like same sex marrages! Next time you stop at the pump for gas, ask yourself, did this guy who stood against abortion do anything for me??? Always remember that one of the things this country was founded on was seperation of church and state!!!!! Remember that when it comes time to vote and don't let it affect your judgement!!!! Remember that speration of church and state. you'll soon find out that some run their whole campains agaist this!!! Take this away and half of them have nothing to run a campain on. That is why we are in this mess, because we vote for silly things that shoild never be brought up in an election, but that's what gets them in. Let them talk about real issues!!!

Re: Bailout no bailout
BAILOUTS
It's a silly notion simple as that.
these folks have racked up millions knowing or at least MUST have known that where these companies stand-such grave matters just don't show up on a Monday morning at the wall street bell time??
it's the cash flow and the stock prices that were telling the story all along -ppl don't default on mortgages in a day or so=it was coming SIMPLE folks chose to ignore or not tell as it is?
In the recent years as late as last year these folks have take multi million dollar bonuses and moved on to next corporation or next level in the excecutive ranks with TOTAL DISREGARD to the REALISTIC issues facing their respective companies-folks were paid tons of money in the name of being the best in the business-we all see the results of their smarts-and then they all were subjected to corporate AUDITs-where in these nationally reputed AUDITING firms were FINED not long ago?
Regrettably all these organisations are at the top of there sector-guess setting the example or setting the BAR for better performance
???
First it was Chrysler a while ago-then came the savings n loans scandle-then Enron-then the IT bubble was bust-then the country was thrust in to WAR with manuplative justifications to promote their own agenda-now comes the economic crisis
all man made folks
????

Where as the administration has hard time finding fund to address infrastuctures and related problems caused by natural disasters -KATRINA-IKE n more, while billions are spend in Iraq to fix the infrastrusture (HALIBURTON BTW- moved out of USA to resettle in DUBAI with it's HQ) there and all this while Iraq has billions of surpluses of it's own
700 billion Dollars
Show me the money-ask ????after wow
Some thing is terribly wrong in the picture here folks
????
How you spell all this
In one word
G R E E D
Thx 4d patience folks-just my two cents
