Questions about FTA HD receivers
Hello all,
I'm new to this FTA thing and have owned a couple of standard FTA models like Pansat, Coolsat 6000, Sonicview Premier 360. Lately, I've bought a 1080p plasma and would like to upgrade to HD, but not sure which receiver to get and tried to do my own research but there's lot of tech terms in the reviews which I didn't understand, so I thought I'd ask the experts. My questions are, with an HD receiver, am I to expect HD quality on all channels or only limited few that offer HD quality? Also, which receiver should be the most reliable for now that I should get?
Thanks for all your help,
Tom

Re: Questions about FTA HD receivers
Well, I personally like my SV8k, it's great! I think the picture quality is wonderful whether it is on an HD channel or not, and the HD quality is the BEST! It has great support. You will need to purchase the optional module in order to receive HD channels. Everyone has their own opinion and their favorite, so you'll have to decide which one is best for you. Also, if you get stuck on a word, look it up with the "FTA Glossary", the tab is above on the light blue menu bar. Good luck.

Re: Questions about FTA HD receivers
Agree with Peggy 100%. The SV-8000 is the top of the line in HD receivers. The ease of operation, programming and the built in recorder for recording your favorite shows is great. The 8PSK module will be needed to receive the HD channels on Charlie though, it will run you @ 125 bucks, give or take a little. Sats 110 and 119 have some HD channels, but more are on sat 129. You can get the dish 1000.2, it has tripple eye LNB. You can hook it up, run one cable and enjoy three sats with the 8000. Hope this helps you make up your mind...

I new to FTA as well but I jumped in with the VS Max
It has had excellent up time service and runs cool
I understood earlier boxes for HD got hot
The 8spx modual was 150 cash and install was a breeze
1080i only though
Not much better in my books available today

Re: Questions about FTA HD receivers
I've read many good things about the sv8000 but keep in mind things might be shut off for a few months if the nag3 thing proves to be a challenge.

Re: Questions about FTA HD receivers
Might be a shame to plunk down the added $$$$ needed for HD capability only to experience the richest, blackest black you've ever seen

Check out the ads on this website. Do a little research on them and then downselect to the one that has good customer service. Watch out for the low price and high shipping deals....avoid them.
