Setup for a friend
Hiya,
I found this site while trying to collect info on satellite receivers.
I am a IT person who usually helps/recommends/guides friends buy electronics.
A friend of mine asked me to help him buy a receiver which he plans to take back to India. i started my quest to understand satellite tv on internet and found myself to like this site.
I need your help to buy a receiver that my friend can take to India and then support him to setup the rig.
i have few months before he takes it, so (after going thru the forum) i was thinking of trying it out here .
any pointers in this direction will be highly appreciated.
Cheers

Re: Setup for a friend
i have read quite a few reviews in the forum and have some basic questions.
1. Would the bin files or keys work for birds over India too ?
2. i check some forums for Indian receivers and looks like none of the receivers listed here are being used.
3. can i buy a card from the service provider and use it with any receiver ?
4. what features will a user keep/loose if the receiver is used in India ?
i wouldn't want to buy something that my friend cant use .
cheers

Re: Setup for a friend
You would be best to see/research what SAT's are avail to that audience ... perhaps a true FTA set up might be a good choice.

Re: Setup for a friend
OK as i recollect here are some posts that were posted by fellow member ArticleBot..that may give you a perspective on the subject..again if you have explored the section FTA announcements n news..,link here ,then do so ..enjoy and hope that helps..good luck tho..
Shuchi Bansal: Advantage broadcasters
c/p::from above link posted by ArticeBot
Since the judgement relates only to non-CAS areas, it will have no impact on the 9.5 million homes that have Direct-to-Home (DTH) services and another 8 million or so that have Conditional Access Service (CAS) at their homes through set-top boxes. For the CAS homes, the ceiling of Rs 5 per channel and Rs 77 for the free-to-air channels per month remains. (In this case too, the broadcasters are unhappy and have challenged this in the Supreme Court where the matter is still pending.)
