Re: What port am I using?
With Xp it should point out all the usb ports you have. Same method to find them it's just that Vista will only show ports that have something connected.

Re: What port am I using?
Try port 4 or 5 first, they are the most common, then next 3 then 6. They work well as long as you install the driver for the usb first.

Re: What port am I using?
Pretty sure the drivers are installed I didnt use the disk that came with the usb cable, so windows found them for me. How can I tell if the drivers are installed? I found the port, it was number 4.

Re: What port am I using?
Nevermind I found out where it shows if the drivers are installed or not and they are installed. Also says drivers are working properly, so wonder why this thing won't work, have no problems on my desktop computer.

Re: What port am I using?
It could be that widows installed the wrong driver. Try the driver from the disk.

Re: What port am I using?
When you get to the driver window prompt it to see if any updates are available via the WEB.
Also I know it is obvious but make sure you are using the correct null cable.

Re: What port am I using?
Hey Tb, what cable are you using.. Someone may have or be able to find the drivers for you if they are the wrong ones.
Also, when I did mine on XP, even though I had the drivers installed, it wasnt directed to the proper port that I was using. So after some fiddling I directed it to the proper port number. I cant tell you why it worked like that, but in my case thats what happened.
So in your device manager you can try changing the port number for your USB-SER and see if that helps.

Re: What port am I using?
The RatShack ones have been known to suck ... I'd exchange it - if possible.
