Dark Days Ahead
c/p thanks to homeslice
poignant and gloomy but a good read
You think only having TV a couple days a week then being out for a day or so is bad, wait about 4 months and you'll be mighty bored! Might want to look into a sub for backup - its going to be a dark, long summer....or so it would seem. Unless someone pulls a rabbit out of their a&@, N3 is going to cause downtime like we havent seen in a while, a LONG while.
And it makes it harder for people who have gotten into this hobby in the last year, or maybe 2. In that time (1+ year now), we havent had any EXTREME downtime to speak of, with the last being Map57 in the summer of 2007. In a way, the constant (might as well say constant) uptime has spoiled some folks to always having something that they wont have anymore..and its going to make alot of people mad, or bring out some pretty agitated tempers. I dont think (on major brands with good support) there has been over a 3-day period since map57 that they havent gotten everything back up and running. Few autoroll issues here, few fake key packets there, but nothing that couldnt be worked around.
Wish everyone could prepare, but the day N3 is implemented there will be thousands of people who have never read anything about N3, or dont even know what it is, popping into forums like this one across the internet, asking what happened, and when the file will be out. And after 4-5 days without any files and the boxes not having someone on a forum CONSTANTLY saying "The coders said just hang tight, they are almost there"...its going to be rough.
And no matter WHAT box you have, the coding team is not going to stay on a forum all the time, encouraging folks to just 'hang tight, we're almost there'
I think the days of TDG ruined that, with PR being pushed and promises made that couldnt be kept. Those that have been around a while know exactly what I'm referring to..promises made and broken almost ruined the integrity of a manufacturer, and we all know that since that time not ONE box has given even the slightest timeline on files and such for there boxes.
Sorry - got longwinded!!!
Just some thoughts I had stirring around. I think the coders have spoiled alot of folks with the constant uptime and those will be the ones who jump ship/complain/and ultimately get banned for bashing when the spoling turns into whining.

Re: Dark Days Ahead
nah, viewsat will have the fix in 2 weeks.
(that's a joke newer ones.disregard.)
yeah that is a good read.
times have changed today with iks based stbs though.
gone are the days where you need to know someone who knows someone to be invited in a card share.
now iks based stbs are readily popular and available.
there's going to be allot of noise for iks units soon i bet.
along with a loads of gloom and doom posters warning about the risks of iks and to wait for their cardless supported coders.

I thought about that my friend, you guys are going to be busy with all the bashing and same question over and over, but man the bashing gets ridiculous.
i just wish people would see this as a hobby, and be patient, but we all know it wont be like that, but you know what Bige. we have a great team here so will be good.

Re: Dark Days Ahead
am sure that they will find a solution of N3 ASP, am not worry, the tech wil not stop on n3 or n4 or......there is a huge FTA market and business out there, n3 is not end of the world, trust me guys, it is just a matter of time
Am expecting to sell new boxes for the n3 solution, just to make money, and after a while, they will find a solution for old boxes, after making a lot of money, REMEMBER FORTEC AND PANSAT2500, THEY ARE STILL WORKING.....stay tuned
good luck

Re: Dark Days Ahead
I know it's human nature to tell ourselfs everything will be ok. The one thing I look at is n3 has been up in Europe for a while now, with no solution other then card shareing solutions like IKS. It will be a long time if ever that we see a no iks cardless fix for n3, but I hope I'm wrong about that. I'm going to be preparded with other options, and not get my hopes up. That way I won't be disappointed what ever may happen with n3. That's the best advice to give. If you really need T.V. you better get preparded with a back up plan!

Re: Dark Days Ahead
Hey Gang,
I had originally posted this about a month ago, but many may have missed it, so I'll re-post it.
Greetings All
Thought I'd do a little poking around the Globe, and see what the state of the N3 nation looked like in Europe, and it appears that a large number of products are available, despite N3, in fact, these receivers are working:
polankin
Dreambox 500
Dreambox 7000
Dreambox 7020
Dreambox 7025
Relook Mutant 400
Relook Mutant 200
Strong
FTE Max S100
FTE Max S200
Metabox I
Metabox II
Metabox III
Metabox 10
SATYCON
iTgate TGS 100
iTGate TGS 200
Humax IRCI 5400
Samsung 9500
TEKA1000M
Technomate TM-9100 linux
Reelbox
Ferguson
ARION
GOLDVISION SUREPRISE
Openbox 7000
TROMAN 150
Triple Dragon
DRAGONZ
Ouralis 2
Ouralis 3
Edision
SkyStar 2
Mvision 9080 net
Mvision 8085
Mvision 9095
Illusions m3
Galaxis Easy
More importantly, the one thing these ALL have in common is IKS.
So perhaps we can take a little of the European experience and learn from it.

Re: Dark Days Ahead
I have a subscription with my father, my brother and my son where we paid $25.00 a
month each one. This is a solution until the coders crack N3. However I own a Pansat 2700 a CW800 and a Coolsat 5000. So, get 3 goods friends and paid a subcription ntil then. Thats my opinion. Regards.

Thanks CG. As everyone can see all of Europe has gone to IKS. If there is going to be non IKS bins it will be due to some kind of inside info that will be sold to the highest bider.
The only hope in the very near future may be this majic board SV talked about, if it's ture. I'm thinking it maybe something that you can load all the info from a subed card to the board, and It'll act kind of like IKS. But I could be and probbly am way off, and it's just my own speculation on it

Re: Dark Days Ahead
The only thing is I hope the coders can break N3 in quickest time imaginable. All in all I think that Nfusion, Kbox and other IKS receivers will sell quickly right as the Ax(N3) comes crashing down. My 2 cents.

They are the only units people have been buying the last few months already. I know I wouldn't recomend to anyone to buy a non IKS based unit at this time, unless they want it for only true fta

Re: Dark Days Ahead
If you can't go without tv for a long period of time, or you can't find something else to pass the "boredom", then you got other problems that need to be addressed.
Myself, i can wait it out, just like i did the last time and just like the time before that. If it is cracked to fast, then its not good either, they will have back up plans and that could be very bad news for everyone on this forum.

HARD TO DISAGREE WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, there is going to be a run on Nfusions along with maybe dingles, dangles & dongles. The problems most face is how much $$$ to put out on a purchase. For example, an Nfusion HD is well over $400 big ones while the non-HD can be had for less than $200.
Is HD in our future??? Is HD going to be the standard for ALL broadcasting??? If so, will the non-HD STBs be of any value if all broadcasting is done in HD?? These are my current concerns.
