Xerox did this the last couple of years, and I think it is wonderful!!!
I hope each one of you will take a few moments to send a card. I know
it isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but at least someone far from
home will know that someone is thinking of them.
Let's see how many ABA members send!!! :D

This is a fantastic idea and so easy. I hope each of you will not only
take the time to do this but will pass it on to all the people in your
address book.

XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL

If you go to this web site, *www.letssaythanks.com*
(Let's Say Thanks) you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't
pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!!
It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?
Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to
know we are behind them.

This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you.
Please take the time and please take the time to pass it on for others to
do. We can never say enough Thank You's!!

Thanks for taking to time to support our Military!

ARIES
(Mar. 21- April 20)
Don't overspend on luxury items. Residential moves will be favorable, and larger quarters the most probable direction. Your ability to work with detail will bring recognition.

TAURUS
(Apr. 21- may 21)
You are best to look into investments that will grow in value over an extended period of time. In-laws or older individuals may give you a bit of a hard time today. Lovers will be less than accommodating, and decisions regarding personal direction a necessity.

GEMINI
(May 22-June 21)
Make creative changes to your living quarters. Help those incapable of taking care of their personal affairs. You could meet an interesting individual you'll want to get to know better.

CANCER
(June 22-July 22)
A second chance will result in good work. Leave your checkbook and credit cards at home. Keep your wits about you and be sure that you can trust those you confide in

LEO
(July 23-Aug 22)
You can learn from those who have had similar experiences. Sudden changes regarding work and colleagues are apparent. Be careful not to show your temper when dealing with the boss.

VIRGO
(Aug. 23 -Sept. 23)
You can put in some overtime and make extra cash. Try not to get involved in other people's problems. You may find yourself in an emotional fix if you interfere in other people's problems.

LIBRA
(Sept. 24 -Oct. 23)
You will be overly generous with children today. This is probably causing upset and confusion on the home front. Underhandedness regarding legal matters or contracts must be counteracted.

SCORPIO
(Oct. 24 - Nov. 22)
Make your intentions perfectly clear and find out exactly what is expected of you. Such over indulgence due to emotional upset will be your downfall. You'll be tempted to spend extravagantly today.

SAGITTARIUS
(Nov. 23 -Dec. 21)
Do your own thing without drawing attention to it. Too much too fast will be the attitude surrounding your home environment. You can take advantage of opportunities if you are quick to make a move.

CAPRICORN
(Dec 22.- Jan. 20)
Read some books on self awareness. You will upset your partner if you have spent money on things that aren't necessary. Try not to lose your cool, and make your point known.

AQUARIUS
(Jan. 21 -Feb. 19)
Concentrate on work or make changes to yourself. Don't gossip. You may find that someone you really cared for in the past has come back into your life.

PISCES
(Feb. 20-Mar. 20)
Your obviously unique way of doing things has caught the eye of someone in a higher position. Don't hold back; go with the flow and take a bit of a chance. You will not be able to trust someone you work with.

324th day of 2009 - 41 remaining

Friday, November 20, 2009
HUBBLE DAY

Edwin Powell Hubble was born in Marshfield, Missouri on this day in l889. We’re talking about the Rhodes Scholar Hubble who studied Roman and English Law at Queens College, Oxford and then practiced law for a year in Louisville, Kentucky.

This is the same Hubble who said, “...[I] chucked the law for astronomy, and I knew that even if I were second-rate or third-rate, it was astronomy that mattered...” and then returned to his undergraduate alma mater, the University of Chicago, for postgraduate work leading to his doctoral degree in astronomy.

Hubble worked at the Mount Wilson (California) Observatory where he proved the need for a telescope larger than the 100-inch reflector they were using at the time and assisted in the design of the 200-inch Hale telescope. “With the 200-inch,” he said in a BBC broadcast in London, “we may grasp what now we can scarcely brush with our fingertips.”

“What do you expect to find with the 200-inch?” he was asked. Hubble’s reply, “We hope to find something we hadn’t expected.”

Edwin Hubble’s discovery and development of the concept of an expanding universe has been described as the “most spectacular astronomical discovery of the twentieth century.” As a tribute to him, the Hubble Space Telescope bears his name. That telescope, with its 240-centimeter mirror, has allowed us to see farther into space than ever before.

Events
November 20
1866 - The rotary-crank bicycle was patented by Pierre Lallement in Paris, France. The bike, incidentally, was known as the bone shaker.

1919 - The first municipally-owned airport in the nation opened -- in Tucson, Arizona. The entire community turned out for the big celebration.

1929 - The first broadcast of The Rise of the Goldbergs, with Gertrude Berg as Molly, was heard on the NBC Blue radio network. Later, the title would be shortened to The Goldbergs. Mrs. Berg, incidentally, wrote the first scripts for the 15-minute program and starred in the show -- for $75 a week. The program continued until 1945 (it returned for one season in 1949-1950). Gertrude Berg brought The Goldbergs to TV in 1949, entertaining audiences with New York style, motherly phrases like, “Button up your neck. It’s cold outside.”

1929 - Leo Reisman and his orchestra recorded Happy Days are Here Again for Victor Records. The classic was recorded just three weeks after the stock market crash that plunged the nation into the Great Depression. Some people have a unique sense of timing, don’t they?

1931 - The first commercial teletype service was introduced by American Telephone and Telegraph Company.

1947 - The first network presentation of Meet the Press aired on NBC-TV (consisting of two stations). The panel interview program became the longest-running series on network television. And it keeps on running and running and...

1947 - A royal wedding this day, as Princess Elizabeth (who would be Queen in four years) and Lt. Philip Mountbatten were married.

1959 - One of America’s great rock jocks was fired from WABC radio in New York. The ‘Moondoggy’ himself, Alan Freed, was axed in the midst of the payola music scandal.

1966 - Cabaret opened on Broadway for the first of 1,165 stellar performances. Joel Gray starred in the hugely successful musical that is an adaptation of both the play, I Am a Camera, and the novel, Goodbye to Berlin.

1969 - Soccer star Pelé collected his 1,000th career goal -- in Rio de Janeiro.

1971 - Isaac Hayes of Memphis, TN got his first #1 hit as the Theme from Shaft began a two-week stay at the top of the charts.

1984 - “You deserve a break today...” by knowing that 35 years and 11 months after the very first McDonald’s hamburger was sold, the 50 billionth burger was made by Edward Rensi, president of Mickey D’s. The milestone was celebrated this day at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City.

1984 - The largest crowd to see the unveiling of a Hollywood Walk-of-Fame star turned out as Michael Jackson got his piece of the sidewalk right in front of Mann’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. ‘The Gloved One’ became star number 1,793 on the famed walk.

1992 - Fire erupted at Windsor Castle, Queen Elizabeth's official residence west of London, causing much damage. The queen and Prince Andrew pitched in to help save priceless artworks and other valuables housed in the fortress. The fire burned for 15 hours damaging or destroying nine principal rooms and over a hundred other rooms. It took a million and a half gallons of water to put out the blaze. The next five years would be spent restoring the Castle to its former glory.

1998 - It was movie debut day for: Woody Allen’s Celebrity, starring Hank Azaria, Kenneth Branagh, Judy Davis, Leonardo Dicaprio and Melanie Griffith; Enemy of the State (“It's Not Paranoia if They’re Really After You.”), starring Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight and Regina King; and the animated The Rugrats Movie (“An adventure for anyone that ever wore diapers.”), with the voices of David Spade, Whoopi Goldberg, Elizabeth Daily, Christine Cavanaugha and Cheryl Chase.

A brief history of Toilets

An infant girl sits on a large ceramic pot while toilet training.

In case you didn't know (and honestly, why would you?), Nov. 19 is World Toilet Day — an event hosted by the World Toilet Organization to raise awareness for the 2.5 billion people around the world who live without proper sanitation. But even for those of us with access to modern plumbing, how often do we really think about our toilets? From outhouses to water closets — even former Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain's $35,000 "commode on legs" (technically a table, not a toilet) — humans have been devising creative ways to go to the bathroom since, well, since the first person crossed his legs with an urgent need to go.
It's unclear who first invented the toilet: early contenders for the honor are the Scots and the Greeks. Skara Brae, a Neolithic settlement on the Scottish mainland dating back to 3,000 B.C., features stone huts equipped with drains extending from recesses in their walls — a feature which historians believe were for residents' bathroom needs. The Palace of Knossos on Crete, built around 1,700 B.C., features definite latrines: large, earthenware pans connected to a water supply that ran through terra-cotta pipes. Europeans had nothing of comparable sophistication until well into the 16th century.
Ancient Rome is famous for its public bath houses — the Baths of Caracalla are six times larger than St. Paul's Cathedral and could serve 1,600 people at once — and the Roman commitment to hygiene didn't stop with just bathing. At one point Rome boasted 144 communal lavatories. The city's giant toilets, with their long, benchlike seats, were not used every day; for the most part, Romans just threw their waste into the street.
Medieval England wins the gross-out award for its invention of the castle garderobe — a protruding room with a tiny opening out of which royalty would do their business. The garderobe was usually suspended over a moat which collected all manner of human discards and making for a particularly uninviting hurdle for an invading army. Peasants and serfs — forced to go without their own castles — relieved themselves in communal privies located at the end of their street or, in the case of those living along the London Bridge, right into the River Thames.
Garderobes and public toilets were eventually replaced with something slightly more recognizable to the modern day defecator: a box with a lid. France's Louis XI hid his toilet behind curtains and used herbs to keep his bathroom scented; England's Elizabeth I covered her commode in crimson velvet bound with lace.
In 1596, England lept into modern sanitation when Sir John Harrington, godson of Elizabeth I, published Metamorphosis of Ajax in which he described a new kind of water closet: a raised cistern with a small pipe down which water ran when released by a valve. The Queen installed Harrington's invention in her palace at Richmond, but it took another 200 years before a man named Alexander Cummings developed the S-shaped pipe underneath the basin to keep out foul odors. At the end of the 18th century, the flushable toilet went mainstream.
In the 1880s, England's Prince Edward (later to become King Edward VII) hired a prominent London plumber named Thomas Crapper to construct lavatories in several Royal palaces. While Crapper patented a number of bathroom-related inventions, he did not — as is often believed — actually invent the modern toilet. He was, however, the first one to display his bathroom wares in a showroom so that when customers needed a new fixture they would immediately think of his name.
Bathroom technology really took off, though, in the 20th century. Flushable valves, water tanks that rest on top of the bowl rather than above, toilet paper rolls (invented in 1890 but not heavily marketed until 1902) — these minor improvements seem like necessities now. And if you think the toilet hasn't changed recently, think again: in 1994 Congress passed the Energy Policy Act, requiring common flush toilets to use only 1.6 gallons of water, less than half of what they'd consumed before. The "low-flow" law left a lot of consumers dissatisfied (and a lot of toilets clogged) until companies developed better models, many of which — if we're lucky enough to be counted among the 60% of the world's population with access to proper sanitation — we use today.

TAURUS
(Apr. 21- may 21)
You may want to take a look at courses offered at a local institute. Be diplomatic and honest, and that person will only be made to look bad. Jealousy may get in the way of a good relationship.

GEMINI
(May 22-June 21)
Romantic relationships could be under pressure. Don't count on correspondence to clear up major problems. A lot has changed and so have you.

CANCER
(June 22-July 22)
Do your job and don't ask for favors. Invite friends over. Any capricious behavior will confuse loved ones and your mood swings will result in loneliness.

LEO
(July 23-Aug 22)
Hard work will not go unnoticed. You can find out important information if you listen to friends and relatives. You need to look into ways to change your self-image.

VIRGO
(Aug. 23 -Sept. 23)
You should get out and meet some of those clients that you only speak to on the phone. You must try to lay your cards on the table. Talk to your mate and tell them how you feel. You can make money if you get involved in real estate deals.

LIBRA
(Sept. 24 -Oct. 23)
Limitations on the home front can be expected if you have been restricting your mate's freedom. Make plans to do something special with the one you love. Your talent will be recognized.

SCORPIO
(Oct. 24 - Nov. 22)
Do things with your children and avoid situations that make you feel as if you've neglected the ones you love. Talk to someone with experience about budgets or consolidating debts. You are best to avoid confrontations.

SAGITTARIUS
(Nov. 23 -Dec. 21)
Don't hesitate to look for alternatives that will enable you to raise the kind of donations you need to do the job right. You're likely to encounter new partners if you take short trips. Your partner may be reluctant to tell you how they feel.

CAPRICORN
(Dec 22.- Jan. 20)
Your ideas will be well received. You may have difficulties at an emotional level with mates. Discuss your objectives with peers or lovers.

AQUARIUS
(Jan. 21 -Feb. 19)
Do not get upset over trivial matters. Don't let your personal partner hold you back. This may not be the day to get involved in risky joint financial ventures.

PISCES
(Feb. 20-Mar. 20)
Don't be angry, but be on your guard. Weigh the pros and cons and make a decision that will change the conditions you've been living under. Exercise is always a good way to relieve stress.

Our rain didn't last long, turned into clear blue skies and sunshine.....still cold mornings and nights.

Wishing everyone that is challenged each day, a resolution for their problems and to feel better today! I'm hoping the band-aid squad is feeling better. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Special prayers for our Troops, both home and abroad, and their families.

Fossil just let me know that he lost his job Tuesday, no notice nothing, just let go. He doesn't have Internet service at home, so he won't be able to be on ABA for awhile. He'll be missed. I hope he finds something soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family and to all our members that have found themselves in the same situation. Hang in there, my wish is for everyone to get their jobs back and to get caught up on all the financial burdens. With times so hard, it's more important than ever to keep a positive attitude and not let things bring you down. Think of all the things you have to be thankful for, it seems to help paint a brighter picture.

"Life is like riding a bicycle - in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving."~Albert Einstein

Choose to move forward, step by step. Don't settle for mediocrity, make the most of every moment. Don't put your dreams on hold because of disappointments or setbacks. Negative thoughts steal precious moments from you, so don't allow it to take over. Keep smiling and make laughter a big part of your day!

Thank you all for making ABA the BEST! Have fun and be safe!

You are always here with the facts, if you don't know something, you'll search until you find the answer and then help the member that had a question. Almost all of the 14,000 were answering a question or posting a sticky or a tutorial, only a few were for fun or useless (but always interesting! lol) had to tease you about that! Your dedication is appreciated each and every day. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and friendship with us. You are one of the ABA BEST!! Keep up the great work!
